Whitchurch Museum & Archives has been awarded accreditation status, the UK industry standard for museums and galleries. This means that the Arts Council makes sure that the collection is managed properly and that the museum is governed appropriately. In order to maintain this national accreditation status the museum relies heavily on a group of motivated volunteers. New members are always welcome.
The collection is cared for by a group of volunteers whose aims are:-
- To care for the Collection
- To catalogue the Collection
- To create public access to the Collection
- To expand the Collection
- To offer help to local organisations with their collections
The Whitchurch Museum and Archives team currently meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 11a.m. – 4p.m.
New volunteers are sought to carry out a diverse range of tasks. These tasks include:- data-processing, cataloguing donations, creating displays, cleaning dirty documents, labelling artefacts, filing, photographing, environmental monitoring, dusting exhibits and creating leaflets.
We also need volunteers to help with the stewarding of the museum we currently open the museum Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 11am to 4pm. can you spare a couple of hours a week to help?

The volunteers do not only confine their activities to 12 St Mary’s Street but also co-ordinate Heritage Open Days for Whitchurch, lead themed walks around the locality and present talks to local groups.
